25 Ways to be Kind 1. Smile at someone. 2. Hold the door open for someone. 3. Help someone bring their groceries to their car. 4. Give another driver your parking spot. 5. Let another car out in front of you while in traffic. 6. Write a letter of appreciation to someone (anyone). 7. Send a card to someone you love. 8. While in the drive thru at a fast food restaurant, pay for the perso behind you. 9. Spend time with someone at a retirement home. 10. Leave a gift on a random person's door step. 11. Buy donuts for a random business. 12. Bring a cup of coffee to a co-worker. 13. Let the person in the grocery store line go in front of you. 14. Pick up trash around your neighborhood. 15. Does kindness have to be a random act? Since starting this site, we've been inspired by reading the stories from many of our visitors about their own experiences with random acts of kindness. It is truly inspirational to play a part even if it is only to share, with you, their stories. It must be a habit What defines a random act of kindness and does kindness always have to take such a spontaneous form? Let's look at it from another point of view, Habit. Habits are routines of behavior that are repeated regularly, tend to occur subconsciously, and often go unnoticed in the person exhibiting them. Have you ever hear the expression “Constant dripping will eventually hollow a stone?” Think of the habit of being kind as the “dripping” and universal shift of character as “the stone.” What would the world look like if everyone was in the habit of spreading small acts of kindness every day? Kindness and it’s relation to health Like exercise of with body, practicing kindness is a character exercise to improve morality. Exercising kindness on a regular basis will not only improve your own character but it changes the way we see ourselves and raises the standards of our own views on life and how we share it with others. It strengthens the foundation of trust with our piers and enables us to mentor better habits. 10+ ways to turn Random kindness into habitual kindness; 1. Set aside a portion of your income to donate to a local charity or animal shelter. Whether it’s 5% or $5.00, your consistent donation can affect a lot of lives! 2. Get involved in the kindness community. Explore local kindness movements and get involved or get involved with the online kindness community by commenting on blogs or submitting your story. 3. Get involved with a local non-profit organization and donate a few hours a month to help out with a charity that inspires you. Not everyone is able to donate money but we can all spare a little time. 4. Donate don’t Discard! Did you know that on average, Americans throw away 68 pounds of clothing per person each year? Not only is this filling up our landfills, but these clothes could also be used by someone in need. Find a local place to donate your clothes. Practice the Boy Scout motto: Always leave a place better than the way you found it. Pick up the piece of trash that didn’t quite make it to the trash can, tidy up the break room sink area even if it wasn’t you who left the mess…it takes a lot to take on the habit of always making someplace a little better! 8. Start the “10 minute Thank You’s.” Take 10 minutes at the end of the workday on Friday to thank someone. Whether you write a thank you card to a co-worker, call a family member to thank them for being themselves or thank the custodial worker for doing such a great job. If you think hard enough, you will always think of at least a few people you can thank! 9. Talk about being kind. Words are powerful. The simple act of talking about kindness and being kind can affect you and those you are speaking to. 10. Join a fund raiser.
